Hey I don't know if this is the right place to be asking this but I'm not really a scene kinda guy and am looking for places to meet people. Hate bars and clubs but don't know where else I can meet other gay guys. Any ideas?

Hi there Adam, Thanks for your post. I'm one of the OutLife support team and hopefully can point you in the right direction. I totally hear you about involvement in the bars and clubbing part of the gay scene. I myself haven't been out to gay bars in a long while as it wasn't great for my mental health, and I realised that ultimately, I wanted to connect with people in the community in a different way. Thankfully there are now plenty of ways to meet other LGBTQ+ people that don't involve heading to your local gay bar. I'm now a member of a queer videogaming society and a gay men's dog walking group, which are much better for me and still allow me to make friends and feel part of the LGBTQ+ community. Now, you don't mention how old you are or what area you're based in, but I'm going to direct you to some places online where you might be able find what you're looking for. - If you're in London this makes things quite easy as there are a tonne of LGBTQ+ groups who do everything from reading to sailing to... well anything you can think of. Unfortunately there's no central resource that lists them all (yet, we're developing one at OutLife) so you're actually best off Googling "London, LGBTQ+, sailing" or similar. - You can also try using the site Meetup, which hosts a bunch of LGBTQ+ groups in and outside of London. www.meetup.com/cities/gb/17/london/lgbtq/- If you're under 24 and looking to meet people your own age, you might find joining a youth group useful. There's actually another thread on this forum where I list the principle places you can find LGBTQ+ youth groups in the UK, read up here: outlife.forums.net/thread/14/dating-apps- If you're looking for something specific, or just have questions about gay culture, or need a chat, you can also call Switchboard, which is operated by LGBTQ+ volunteers. It's a great service! 0300 330 0630 (10am - 10pm). I hope that some of the above helps. There are way more things out there I could direct you to but I'd rather not clutter up this thread. Maybe if you could provide a little more info (like which region of the UK you're living in) then that would help! Anyway, you can always re-post here if you have any questions Justin
