I'm a smoker and I also have diabetes. Bulgarian doctors told me it's dangerous for me to try quit smoking (but as I sad in another topic - I don't trust them much) but I read somewhere on the internet about diabetics from other countries who succeeded in quitting smoking, so I wonder - how can I achieve that without complications of my diabetes?

Hi there valsobg,
Thanks for your post. LGBTQ+ people are more likely to be smokers so you're definitely not alone in being queer and wanting to give up! As for the interaction between smoking and your diabetes, we're not experts and we're not allowed to give medical advice. Your GP is usually best placed to give you advice based on your individual health needs though I understand that you don't have a great deal of trust in them. I don't know the details of the healthcare system in Bulgaria but if you don't have a trusting relationship with your GP are you able to move to another?
Sorry we can't be more helpful!
Justin

If I could afford to move to another country, I would have done so long ago.

The benefits of quitting outweigh the likelihood of increased snacking while you get used to it, I'd wager.

Try to get hold of some nicotine chewing gum and some nicotine patches. A Smoking Cessation nurse would help for occasional support. I have never looked back, much happier not smoking. Naomi
