Hi Everyone This week I want to ask if you have any recommendations for small acts of self care. We may use your examples in an article, or in workshops so please state if you do not want your answers used outside this forum. The nature of self care means that what works for one person may not work for another. This quote from the blurt foundation explains self care - Self-care is the actions we undertake to look after ourselves, physically, emotionally and mentally. It incorporates the essential acts of care that we all need to focus on – like eating well, keeping ourselves clean and getting enough sleep. On top of that though, self-care is what nourishes us personally: the things we do that comfort us, calm us, and make us feel good. These will vary from person to person – you might be drawn to creative activities, physical pursuits, mindfulness techniques, a combination of all three or something different altogether.Like the quote explains I see self care in two categories. 1 is the basics to keep myself going, a 1 act of self care might be brushing my hair. 2 is after my basic needs are met to make me feel good, like listening to a song, lighting a candle or taking a moment to be with my dog. I hugely recommend The Blurt Foundation. They have lots of free resources as well as a great shop.

Thanks for the link - looks like there is lots of good stuff on there.
I have created a 'bad day box' for those times when I'm just not feeling great about stuff - it's just a box with things inside it like chocolate, a DVD of a favourite film, a note about what music will lift my mood etc - so I can reach for that if I ever feel I just need to re-set.
Otherwise, in terms of maintaining things usually I force myself to get out for a walk, run, bike ride etc. Being outdoors really helps.

thats a really good idea. It takes a lot of self discipline to get outside if your not feeling like it, so well done!

Thanks for the idea about this "bad day box", it might be really helpful! Agree with you about being outdoors. This is a great way to calm down and relax after a complicated day.
