Looking for advice - Anyone have any online dating app tips for a newbie who has come out of a 10+ year relationship and never did the apps beforehand? What are your rules for meet ups? (I am currently in pandemic lockdown where I live in Australia so all meet ups will have to be down the track...). Any horror stories or funny stories to share that might help me avoid similar situations?

Hi, firstly all the best in this adventure you are on. Remember you are having fun.
I’ve done dating apps, I personally found gaydar very enjoyable in its initial concept but it changed design to match many others. Grindr is probably the most obvious one now but I’ve had mixed experiences. If you are looking for a boyfriend forget Grindr or any of these types of apps. Most men are just looking for a quickie and usually married. It can be a shallow experience I’m afraid full of regret. Saying that the last guy I met was lovely and very genuine. There have been a few nice guys tbf but equally some dodgy ones. One guy tried to penetrate me, I said no, he respected that but promptly ejaculated in my mouth with no warning! Was nice though! Another guy simply wanted a blow job, he came very quickly then I had to leave!!
If you want to meet men for socialising use meet up where there are more localised groups and proper meetings. Focus on making new friendships, dating will follow. This app is brilliant for that. And there is no judging and everything is done so you feel safe.
Hope this helps.
