Hi all, where do I start?
My name is Jaime, that’s the name I wish to go by now and not my horrendous birth name. I don’t wish to make this a sob story but I’ll tell you a little about myself but omit the violence and abuse of my upbringing if you don’t mind. I only came out as pansexual around a month or two before Christmas, it was met with positive reactions except from the one person I expected to be supportive. We have now cut ties due to their abusive behaviour. The story doesn’t end there! I have suffered from severe depression since puberty and around five years ago now diagnosed schizophrenic with extreme anxiety issues and chronic panic attacks. A lot of alcohol and substance abuse ensued from a young age to cope with what I was hiding in a situation/area/social circumstance that would have seen me, well, not treated very nicely to put it lightly. You see, I’m transgender, and at the age of 44 I can’t take hiding away from that fact anymore, it’s what has made me ill and I want to finally emerge as the woman I know I am. I have tried to contact my mental health team to get the ball rolling so I can be referred to the gender dysphoria clinic but have had no reply so have now gone through my GP and have a consultation on Monday. I hope this is the beginning of finally becoming ME and break out from this lonely reclusive life I have led for so long now.
I’ll leave it at that for now and will start a new thread on the forum asking for advice on clothing, meeting new friends and social gatherings/clubs where I can feel safe being me. (When everything is back open of course)
My goodness I feel like an emerging butterfly!
Thank you for reading.
Jaime

Hi Jaime and welcome to the OutLife forums! So glad to hear that you've come out and you seem to be feeling better for it. Not being who we are can cause all kinds of problems with our mental health and wellbeing, so I wish you best of luck with your GP and the GI clinic You can always post to these forums, but of course there's no pressure. If you want to ask advice on all the things you mention above when you feel more comfortable then that's totally fine. Jusitn
