I just joined. I tend to tell people I’m a lesbian but I guess technically I am a homoromantic asexual. I’m 27. My pronouns are she/her. I don’t feel very good about myself or my identity but I’m trying to change that.

Hi there. Thanks for your post and for reporting all those spam/homophobic posts. You’re making our jobs as admins much easier! I also tell people I’m a lesbian but fall along the aromantic and asexual spectrum. You can absolutely still identify as a lesbian and be asexual. It can be difficult and tiresome to explain asexuality to random people and it’s not your job to educate them, so I think telling people you’re a lesbian and not going any further than that is a totally understandable and valid thing to do. I’m sorry to hear that you don’t feel very good about yourself or your identity, but I’m glad that you’re trying to change that! Accepting yourself can be a difficult task and it’s so good that you’re working on it. If you’d like some further support, Switchboard switchboard.lgbt/ and LGBT Foundation lgbt.foundation/ both have LGBTQ+ helplines. PinkTherapy www.pinktherapy.com/ has a directory of LGBTQ+-friendly therapists if you think that therapy may be a good option for you. Feel free to keep posting and keep us updated on how you’re doing. Elle
