Hi guys,
Hope you all are well. In 2019 I was assaulted by 2 guys hurling homophobic abuse at me on Old Kent Road. They punched me in the back of the head and kneed me in the face until I managed to escape. The police said unless there was any footage on CCTV then the matter is closed. I never heard back from them. My new housemate just told me that he knows of five gay friends that were beaten up in homophobic attacks on the same road and that Old Kent Road and New Kent Road are infamously dangerous for LGBT people and that there is an 'asiain homophobic gang' that operate around the area looking for gays to beat up.
Has anyone had a similar experience or do you know of anyone that has has a similar experience? If so, can you please share/encourage friend to share here please

Hi cammack1234, I'm so sorry to hear that you were assaulted that must have been a horrible experience for you. I've also experienced a homophobic attack and remember the feelings it left me with. In terms of receiving support, there is a dedicated LGBTQ+ anti-violence charity that specialises in helping people when they've experienced homophobic hate crimes, including navigating the police. They're called Galop and you can find their website here: galop.org.uk/ If you, or any of the people you know want to seek support from them, then I'm sure they'd be able to provide some advice regarding the incidents and may even be able to advocate for you to the police. If you just want to talk to someone about your experience, then you can also call Switchboard, the UK's LGBTQ+ helpline on 0300 330 0630, or via webchat here switchboard.lgbt/, or email them at chris@switchboard.lgbt. I hope that some of the above is helpful and that you, and your housemate's friends manage to find a way forward. All the best, Justin

This is terrible If this had of been an assault on someone not from the LGBTQ’ community they would have looked up cctv footage and I feel as though you need to contact the chief of police and do so after “if you can” you find these other people even just one other as this isn’t acceptable as it’s a hate crime not just an assault and something needs to be done about it
It’s awful that this happened to you as it does have an impact, if we all went about attacking people for certain aspects of who and how they are then Jesus .
