This week is Mental Health Awareness week and the theme is loneliness. At LGBT HERO, we want to help combat loneliness in the community. We are starting a monthly online support group called Umbrella Hangouts. The group is for anyone who identifies as LGBTQIA+ regardless of age, gender, race and religion. These sessions are a safe space for any person who is looking for a friendly chat and a sense of community. Above all else, we want you to have fun!
The sessions will be held on Zoom every 2nd Wednesday of the month between 7pm – 8:30pm, our first event is on the 8th June. Each session we will be exploring a new topic, this session it is 'Identity & Me'. We will be chatting about our own journeys of self-discovery and how we have come to be the people we are today. Over the course of the sessions, we will be chatting all things queer. Discussions will include topics such as journeys of self-discovery; the power of community; unlocking self-expression; representation in the media and navigating social media as a visibly queer person. There will be a structure to each session, but this space is for you. Whether you binged Heartstopper in one sitting or Arlo Parks got you in your feels, we want to hear about it!
To find out more about how the sessions will run, please visit the Umbrella Hangouts page on the LGBT HERO website.
