Hi,
I’ve seen a couple of posts elsewhere suggesting that douching before anal play isn’t necessary and in some cases can case more harm than good.
I always understood it to be a sensible hygienic practice, is there something I am missing?

Hi there, hope the links below helps a little. If you are unsure you could ask any questions you have to a sexual health specialist when you are next in. If you are going to engage in douching then you need to know that this can increase the chances of HIV and STIs being transmitted, this is because the anal passage needs mucus to stop tears and cuts happening. If you take that away then it will increase the chances of HIV and STIs being transmitted. If you are going to engage in douching and anal sex we recommend using condoms. If you don’t want to use condoms and are HIV-negative then we recommend you look into PrEP. www.lgbthero.org.uk/prepwww.lgbthero.org.uk/messy-sex-and-douchingwww.lgbthero.org.uk/how-to-survive-messy-sex
