Hi HEROes!
Another week, another topic for us to sink our teeth into. In this thread we're talking about Monkeypox and the shortage of vaccines in the UK. But before we get there, I'd just like to point you in the direction of a couple of important links:
First up is our monkeypox survey. We want to know how you're feeling, whether you managed to get vaccinated, and how the current monkeypox situation is affecting your mental and sexual wellbeing. It only takes a few minutes but will provide us with vital information.
TAKE THE MONKEYPOX SURVEY HERE
Next up we'd like to point you toward our fact sheet on monkeypox which has all the latest information on the virus and how to keep yourself safe.
READ OUR MONKEYPOX FACT SHEET
Right, with that out of the way, back to the main event: our topic! We've all seen the scenes of thousands of queer people queuing up to get the monkeypox vaccine across the country; there is huge demand to have the jab. However the UK's rollout has run into a stumbling block due to the near-complete depletion of our vaccine stock which isn't due to be topped up with another 100,000 doses until the end of September. This means that vaccines will all-but halt in most places as doses run out, while members of our community continue to contract monkeypox. Those who have yet to receive the jab are now left wondering how long they must wait until they're given a degree of protection from the virus.
In an article in by the BBC today one healthcare worker described the situation as unconscionable:
You can read the full article on the BBC here.
We want to know what you think about the current situation and how you've been personally affected by the outbreak. While usually we'd say "comment below!" we'd actually prefer for those of you that haven't taken the monkeypox survey to let us know your thoughts there. If you've already taken the survey, then please add your thoughts below!
