Firstly I would like to say I support anyone who identifies as Queer. However for myself I am a gay woman, and am offended by hearing myself labelled as queer on TV etc. LGBTQ+ is labelled as such for a reason, we all have our own identities, I would prefer to have my own or no label. Queer is defined as Strange; Odd in the dictionary, which isn’t me. People have fought and are still fighting for LGBTQ+ equal rights. For me personally I don’t want to be strange or odd, I just want to be like any other person where gender identity isn’t even thought about. I feel like we’re going backwards, now I feel like I have to defend myself, I feel offended, I feel different, whereas the last decade until recently I’ve felt like I’m an equal, its never been an issue or even thought about as strange. To summarise I support anyone who identifies as queer, but please let’s not label the whole community as queer.

Hi FabulousForty, I totally get why some poeple don't like the word queer but like many other people I chose to reclaim it, and it's become a useful word for me. I identify as a gay man, and as queer. Lots of different opinions on the topic though!
