Hi, firstly I hope everyone is having a healthy and good start to 2023? Personally, I like the start of a new year as I get excited about plans (often too many) but this year I have set a realistic things to do accomplish list. One of them is try a new experience every month - no matter how small this may be. This month it is seeing a concert live from a favourite band of the 90's and reconnecting with an old Uni mate. So what plans have people got for the new year? Do resolutions even work? Is there one thing you would love to achieve this year? Not sure if this link helps? >> www.goodhousekeeping.com/health/wellness/advice/g985/achievable-new-year-resolutions/Best wishes and look forward to finding out.

For the last few years what I've done is instead of making resolutions I broke the year down into weekly segments which number 52 in total and try and do something each week. Somethings are big and complex (like going to a music concert) whilst others are quite simple, like painting a fence or buying a book or DVD in the shop that I want.
Doesn't always work and sometimes there are a lot of blank gaps when I look at the chart but it mostly works out.

This sounds like a helpful idea James - thanks. Hope it's going well and glad it mostly works. :-)

Making goals and plans for the year always demotivates me, because always something always goes wrong. For example, this year I was supposed to make a long trip, but due to problems with relatives, it was canceled. And this is not the only case. For me, the best idea is to plan ahead, no longer than a month, to take into account the circumstances. I also try to spontaneously fill my day with something interesting - it brings more joy than what was planned to be done for a long time. But we are all different, and each of us needs to choose a strategy that suits us.

Hi chhow, for me making goals give me a direction to work towards. I agree with you planning for short term goals are usually more realistic. Yes you're right we are different and we all need to test and choose what works for us. Spontaneity can also be a source of joy.
Thanks for pour post.

Hope everyone's year is going well so far. I've certainly had some up and downs and topped up my daily self-care routines. I find when I forget to do my self-care I sort of lose focus. So today I am going back to breathing, reading, not rushing, eating healthier!
Lets us know how you are getting on.
Best wishes

I came out as Nonbinary and started using a new name at work back in February, which has gone pretty well. They were really quick at swapping anything they can to my new name, even with it not being a legal name change.
