Hi,
Does anyone know anything about mephedrone? I started going out with this guy a few months ago and recently he's been pushing for me to try some with him. I've smoked weed and had half a pill once (think it was a dud) but never anything like this. I really like him and don't want to disappoint him, but I'm also not sure about taking drugs to have sex. Seems weird. Anyone else had it? What's it like?

Hi Sam. GMFA have some great advice on Mephedrone and its affects. But here's what you should know about it. Even though mephedrone makes you feel excited, energetic and generally quite bubbly, it is actually quite a strong chemical drug. It can have a different effect from person to person each time they take it. Apart from making you gurn uncontrollably (so you look like you are about to chew your face off), twitch and sweat, mephedrone is a vascular constrictor that narrows the veins and makes your heart pump faster. Besides this, and the horrific comedown that follows a high, not too many people experience harms when taking mephedrone recreationally. Many gay men use mephedrone for sex, staying up for many days either snorting or slamming. This can lead to a frightening drug-induced psychosis that can last for many days after you’ve stopped using and could have a severe impact on your work, finances and mental health. Many people experience no problems during and after getting high on mephedrone and you might recover in a couple of weeks if you stop using it, but the way it affects your body chemistry is very powerful and the comedown could be quite frightening. If you are going to slam, do not share equipment and needles as this is very high risk for the transmission of HIV and hep C. Click here for more info about its side effects:https://www.gmfa.org.uk/mephedrone. I noticed that you said that you were being felt pressured into talking it and you don't want to disappoint him. Taking any drug should be your choice and your choice alone. It's not fair for anyone to put that pressure on you. Drugs can have harmful side affects so if you are going to take them it should be because you want to and not because you feel pressured to. The other issue is if you are going to take them you need to know how to dose correctly. Take them in a safe environment and make sure you trust the person who you do them with. There are many other organisations out there who know about this and can help. We suggest you try London Friend who knows a lot about this stuff. londonfriend.org.uk/get-support/drugsandalcohol/#.W_bKzBP7RTY. If you ever need to talk to someone we can suggest LGBT Switchboard. If you do decide to take mephedrone, come back to us and tell us how it went. We're here to support you.
