Hello OutLifers!
This week I want to kick off a conversation about sleep.
I am a terrible sleeper and have long suffered with insomnia that keeps me awake until the wee hours. Night-time flies on the wall have the thrilling experience of watching me try 473 different sleeping positions, watch endless Star Trek re-runs, drink copious amounts of camomile tea, meditate on and off for hours, open all the windows, read very, very boring books, all in an attempt to lull myself to slumber.
It affects my life in many different ways: I'm often exhausted during the day, which not only makes it hard to work, but reduces my ability to manage my anxiety and depression quite significantly. This then makes it even harder to get to sleep the next day, and it become vicious cycle.
I'd be interested to know how sleep affects you and what your experiences are. Let's talk slumber!
Gogogogogogogogogogo......

I'm lucky with this in that I only have trouble sleeping maybe once or twice a week at most. When I do have trouble though, sometimes listening to boring podcasts work. Sometimes melatonin works. If it's really bad.. nytol works but has to be taken early or i'll get a hangover the next day. Watching tv or reading doesn't help very much, nor does playing phone games. If I go too long with trouble sleeping (a few days in a row) i do tend to get into such an exhausted state that sleep becomes very easy, and when the weekend comes it's a long long long lie in for recovery.

I do struggle sometimes but it's only because I have FROMO (fear of missing out). I feel if I go to bed early I'm going to miss something. I don't know why. It means some days I don't go to bed until 2am and have to get up at 8am. I think I'm addicted to my insta feed LOL

I struggle too but it's because I can't shut my brain off. I overthink and when I have nothing to distract me, as in lying in bed, my brain kicks in and I start thinking about random stuff that keeps my brain active. I do it over and over again. I wish I could stop.

Sometimes it's nothing and sometimes it's old conversations and I think about what I would have liked to have said. It's weird.

OH MY GOSH. I'm forever thinking about past conversations and what I should have said. Why do we do this to ourselves? 😂

Between 5 and 6 o’clock is the awful time to try and get back to sleep for me.
