Hi I’m a 61 year old guy who has been questioning his sexuality half of his life,I was married 30 years ago but have always dreamt of being in a gay relationship my family are very homophobic so I guess I e always kept my feelings hidden but I don’t want to be alone anymore. Just want to be with the right person.

Hi there and thanks for your post and welcome to LGBT HERO Forums. Hope this space allows you to connect to others. Hope the below info helps and stay in touch. Sorry to read your family's homophobia has made you hide you feelings. When I have experienced this before I remember how difficult this was emotionally and this affected my mental health and physical wellbeing. Eventually I plucked up the courage to talk to my GP and a specialist which worked for me. These days there is more choice to talk to LGBTQ+ people in confidence and in privacy. Please some of the links below that may help. Hope this link helps >> www.lgbthero.org.uk/loneliness-and-being-lgbtq-2And it's okay to question our sexuality, especially when we are invalidated by homophobia and heteronormative attitudes. We also run various online social support groups that may help >> www.lgbthero.org.uk/Pages/Events/Category/upcoming-hangouts ( we also run two 50+ HangOuts for older LGBTQ+ people in Lambeth and London online). Practising Self-care and being kind to yourself can make a huge difference. See LGBT HERO’s article with tips on how to improve your mental health here www.lgbthero.org.uk/7-ways-to-improve-your-mental-health Some examples include getting enough sleep and trying to exercise and spend time outside. Talking to the people you do have in your life about your loneliness can help alleviate some of its effects and help them better support you. If you don’t feel comfortable talking to family or friends, talking therapies may be another helpful option. PinkTherapy has a directory of LGBTQ+-specific therapists. www.lgbthero.org.uk/find-supportSwitchboard - 0300 330 0630, 10am-10pm - email chris@switchboard.lgbt LGBTQ+ helpline run by volunteers. Here to help you with whatever you want to talk about. Nothing is off limits. Best wishes and stay in touch
