Hi everyone, International Pronouns Day is an annual event that is held on the third Wednesday of October every year. It serves to raise awareness of the importance of respecting, sharing, educating, and correctly using pronouns. International Pronouns Day was first observed on October 17, 2018. The day was created to raise awareness about the importance of using gender-inclusive language and respecting everyone’s pronouns. Question of the week: What do pronouns mean to you in your personal, social life and your work life?Someone pointed out to me recently that ‘preferred pronouns’ is no longer used, this makes sense. I guess 'Preferred' might make this sound like someone’s gender is up for discussion/debate. It's okay for people to make mistakes but do remember intentionally using the wrong pronouns for someone repeatedly is a form of misgendering and is hurtful. Most people get it (I hope) but from my own experience in work places there is a lot more education to do. Having our pro-nouns on work signatures is often a way forwards. One of the last places I worked in, we had pro-noun badges.
